Ieva & Mārtiņš met each other in Latvia, a small country in Northern Europe with roughly half the population of New Zealand. Ieva was originally going to come to New Zealand with a friend but when the friend pulled out, she asked her boyfriend Mārtiņš to come along with her and was surprised when he said yes. Now they are in New Zealand on working holidays and are having the time of their lives together! It was fun photographing these two, they were so lovely to chat to and I really enjoyed capturing some special moments with them.
We did this photo shoot at St Omer Park in Queenstown with the gorgeous willow trees and Lake Wakatipu for scenery. At one point Ieva asked me if they could climb a tree and photograph them in the tree... well of course! And then at the end of the shoot Ieva and Mārtiņš started to dance and I was able to capture some of their moves. Those candid moments are my favourite to photography, when I can just capture people as they are, together.
I said to these guys, "Ive never met anyone from Latvia before", they said to me "do you know how many times people say that to us?"
Is anyone reminded of Titanic right now? Great pose!
